For decades, people have turned to cupping to feel looser, lighter and more at ease in their own bodies. For most of that history, it has also required an appointment, a practitioner and a set of cups you would never keep at home. The Orion Ion Cup™ changes that. It takes the time-honored practice of cupping and refines it into a single, cordless device you can reach for in the ten minutes between a workout and a shower, or at the end of a long day at your desk.
Here is everything you need to know about the Ion Cup: how it works, what each of its four modes does, and how to make it part of your routine.
An Ancient Practice, Reconsidered
Cupping is one of the oldest bodywork practices in the world, with roots in traditional Chinese, Middle Eastern and Greek wellness traditions. The principle is simple. A cup is placed on the skin and air is removed from inside it, creating negative pressure that gently draws the skin and the tissue beneath it upward. Where massage presses down into the body, cupping lifts.
Traditionally, that suction was created with a flame, which heated the air inside a glass cup before it was placed on the skin. Today, the flame has largely given way to a manual or electric pump, offering far more control over how strong the suction feels.
Cupping is now a fixture in sports therapy clinics, massage studios and home recovery routines alike.
Meet the Ion Cup
The Ion Cup is a 4-in-1 cupping massage device that combines suction, heat, vibration and pulse in one compact, handheld unit. No pump, no flame, no tubing. Choose a cup, select your settings on the LED display and place it where you want it. A built-in timer runs a ten-minute session by default, so you can set it and let the device do the work.
We designed the Ion Cup in Canada around a single idea: cupping should feel like a ritual, not a procedure. That meant making it small enough to slip into a gym bag, intuitive enough to use without instruction after the first session, and refined enough to sit comfortably alongside the rest of your Orion recovery tools.

Four Modes, One Device
Each of the Ion Cup's four modes contributes something different to the experience. You can use them on their own or layer them together to build a session that feels right for your body on that particular day.
Suction
Suction is the foundation of any cupping session. The Ion Cup delivers adjustable negative pressure from 20 to 60 kPa, so you can begin gently and increase intensity as you become familiar with the sensation. Lower levels suit sensitive areas and first-time users; higher levels offer a deeper, more pronounced lift across larger muscle groups like the back and thighs.
Heat
Warmth has long been part of cupping, and the Ion Cup brings it back without the flame. The integrated heating element warms the contact surface to between 38° and 42°C (100° to 108°F), a comfortable range that relaxes the area and makes the suction feel smoother and more soothing. On a cold morning or after a long day, heat is often the setting people come to love most.
Vibration
Vibration adds a gentle, rhythmic massage on top of the suction, with an amplitude of 2 to 4 mm. It turns a static cupping session into something more dynamic, helping areas of tension feel looser and more relaxed by the time the timer ends.
Pulse
Pulse mode alternates the suction in a rhythmic pattern, drawing and releasing in cycles rather than holding a constant pressure. The result is a kneading, wave-like sensation that many people find especially satisfying across the shoulders and upper back. It is also a good mode for anyone who finds continuous suction too intense.
Where Recovery Finds Refinement
Suction, heat, vibration & pulse in one cordless, Designed in Canada device, with three interchangeable cups for every part of the body.
Discover the Ion CupThree Cups for Every Part of the Body
No single cup size suits the whole body. A cup that feels perfect across the broad muscles of the back will not sit well on a forearm, and a small cup will feel lost on a quadricep. The Ion Cup includes three interchangeable glass cups, each designed for a different purpose:
- 55 mm (large): made for the broad, flat muscles of the back, glutes and thighs, where you want coverage and a deep, even lift.
- 45 mm (medium): the everyday all-rounder, well suited to the shoulders, upper back, calves and hamstrings.
- 35 mm (small): designed for smaller and more contoured areas like the forearms, neck and around the shoulder blades. It doubles as the gliding cup for moving sessions.
Swapping between them takes seconds.

The Details That Matter
Good design is often invisible, so here is what is going on inside the Ion Cup:
- Height: 125 mm, small enough to hold comfortably in one hand
- Weight: 0.27 kg (0.6 lb)
- Cup diameters: 35, 45 & 55 mm
- Suction range: 20 to 60 kPa
- Heat range: 38° to 42°C (100° to 108°F)
- Vibration amplitude: 2 to 4 mm
- Battery: 1,800 mAh, USB-C rechargeable
- Runtime: up to 5 hours per charge
- Power: 4.5 W
- In the box: Ion Cup device, three interchangeable cups, USB-C charging cable, carrying case & user manual
Up to five hours of runtime translates to roughly thirty ten-minute sessions between charges. For most people, that means charging it once every week or two.
How to Use the Ion Cup
The Ion Cup is designed to be intuitive from the first session. Here is how a typical session works:
- Choose your cup. Select the size that suits the area you want to focus on: large for the back and thighs, medium for the shoulders and calves, small for the arms and neck.
- Power on & set your modes. Choose your suction level, then add heat, vibration or pulse as you like. If you are new to cupping, begin with a lower suction level and work up from there.
- Place the cup on the skin. The timer defaults to ten minutes. We recommend staying on one area for up to ten minutes per session.
- Relax. Let the device run, then gently release the cup and move to the next area.
Glide Cupping
For a moving, massage-style session, use the small cup with a little massage oil or lotion on the skin. Place the cup on the area and allow a couple of seconds for the suction to engage, then gently lift and glide it across the muscle in slow, steady strokes. It works beautifully along the calves, hamstrings and the muscles either side of the spine.
What to Expect After a Session
Many people feel a sense of looseness and warmth in the area straight after a session. It is also common to see circular marks where the cup was placed. These marks are a normal part of cupping, a result of the suction drawing blood toward the surface of the skin, and they typically fade within several days to a week or two.
If you would prefer to minimise visible marks, use lower suction, choose pulse or glide sessions, and keep sessions on any one area to a few minutes.
Where the Ion Cup Fits in Your Routine
The best recovery tool is the one you actually use, and the Ion Cup is built to slot into the moments you already have.
After training. A ten-minute session on the legs, glutes or back after a run, a lift or a long ride is an easy way to cool down and help tired muscles feel restored.
At your desk. The medium cup with heat and pulse is a quiet reset for the shoulders between meetings.
In the evening. Paired with heat, a slow session before bed becomes a wind-down ritual: a signal to your body that the day is finished.
On the move. With its own case and USB-C charging, the Ion Cup travels as easily as your phone.
Light, Heat & Cupping Together
At Orion, we think of recovery in three modalities: light, heat and cupping. Each offers something different, and they work well together. Many of our customers begin with an Orion red light therapy session, follow with deep, full-body warmth in the Embers Sauna Blanket, and finish with targeted cupping on the areas that need the most attention. The Ion Cup completes the system, bringing a hands-on, focused element to a routine built around how you want to feel.
The pairing is a natural one. Red light works from the inside out, with 660 nm red & 850 nm near-infrared wavelengths reaching into the tissue beneath the skin, while cupping works from the outside in, lifting and loosening the same areas. If you already practice red light therapy at home, a few minutes with the Ion Cup on the areas you have just treated is an easy way to round out the session.

Who the Ion Cup Is For
The Ion Cup is for anyone who takes their recovery seriously and their routine personally. That includes:
- Athletes & active people who want a dependable, portable tool to support their training.
- Desk workers looking for a way to reset tense shoulders and upper backs during the day.

A Note on Safety
Cupping is a gentle practice for most people, but it is not for everyone. Avoid using the Ion Cup on broken, irritated or sunburned skin, over varicose veins or directly on bone, and keep it away from the face and front of the neck. If you are pregnant, have a pacemaker or other implanted device, have a bleeding disorder or take blood-thinning medication, or have any medical condition, speak with your healthcare provider before use. The Ion Cup is a general wellness device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
